Can You Eat Chocolate When Histamine Intolerant?
Here are some facts about histamine intolerance and chocolate.
Chocolate in all forms is listed as a 2 on the SIGHI scale so quite high (cocoa, cocoa powder (chocolate, chocolate drinks, etc.).
It is listed in the red zone on our site here.
White chocolate is thought by some to be less high in histamine.
Some prefer carob over chocolate, but that is also suspect in terms of histamine levels.
Chocolate is one of the hardest foods to cut out when you are histamine intolerant. I don't really ever eat chocolate any more. But once in awhile I think – I'm just going to try a bit of chocolate and see how I feel.
That happened yesterday. Obviously, one bit of chocolate turned into six. I feel fine today although I did have a tell-tale stuffy nose last night.
Worth it for some chocolate although I probably wouldn't do it every day.
