Butter and Histamine
On the SIGHI scale butter is listed as a ‘1’ – a potentially medium histamine food.
I believe most people with histamine intolerance tolerate butter well but I’m interested to know what you think?
I’ve never had any issues and actually eat quite a lot of good quality, organic butter, however in the interests of respecting the super-low-histamine nature of this account I don’t include it much at the mo.
So I asked my Instagram followers: what do you think about butter?
Here are some of what my followers say:
“I am intolerant to dairy which may be separate from HiT but the younger the product, the better. I can get away with a very small amount on the odd occasion. Anything like ricotta, mozzarella, paneer - forget it!”
“In my case, butter and any other dairy product release intestinal histamine (though butter to a lesser extent than other dairy products). Casein is the culprit so I just avoid dairy like the plague”
“Butter and ghee usually are OK! Sometimes cooked butter or butter in baked goods fare better”
