DAO Supplement - the key to unlocking Histamine Intolerance?
Here I am going out for an evening meal, waiting at my local tube and casually checking I have my DAO supplement.
Might this crazy four-pills-in-one supplement be the key to unlocking your histamine intolerance? 🤔
We’ve spoken before about DAO, the primary enzyme that degrades ingested histamine. As much as this is a great supplement, which works effectively, in the past I haven’t recommended it solely for the ingredients used in almost every brand on the market. Most available brands contain talc (or hydrated magnesium silicate to give it the official title).
Talc is added to supplements to prevent ingredients from clumping and sticking to machinery when forming tablets, and talc as a food additive is "generally recognized as safe" by the FDA.
That said, there are numerous articles online suggesting that it is not a great ingredient to be including in a supplement. I’ll leave you to do your own research on the inclusion of hydrated magnesium stearate in a supplement, but I won’t touch it.
Anyway, this brand of DAO is DAOfood Plus and does not contain hydrated magnesium stearate. It does however contain Vitamin C and Quercetin. I ate quite a high histamine meal last night and didn’t seem to react either, so… bonus!
Here are some potential benefits of taking a DAO supplement.👌
👉 Helps to support inflammatory responses in the digestive tract.
👉 Boosts the digestion process and metabolism as a whole.
👉 Has an optimized stability as compared to some of the other supplements.
👉 It is a good source of the diamine oxidase (DAO) enzyme and users have reported excellent benefits from taking before meals.
